Hello
friends,
Today I would like to share a small poem.“A red red
rose “is a romantic poem by Robert Burns, which I studied during my graduation.
Robert Burns (1759 – 1796) was a Scottish poet
and lyricist. He is regarded as a pioneer of the Romantic movement.
O my Luve
is like a red, red rose
That’s newly sprung in June;
O my Luve
is like the melody
That’s sweetly played in tune.
So fair
art thou, my bonnie lass,
So deep in luve am I;
And I
will luve thee still, my dear,
Till a’ the seas gang dry.
Till a’
the seas gang dry, my dear,
And the rocks melt wi’ the sun;
I will
love thee still, my dear,
While the sands o’ life shall run.
And fare
thee weel, my only luve!
And fare thee weel awhile!
And I
will come again, my luve,
Though it were ten thousand mile.
In this poem
the poet compares his love with a red rose which is “newly sprung in June”. His
love is like a sweet melody. His love is so deep. The poet says that he will
love his beloved till all the Seas dry up. He will lover her until the rocks melt
with the sun, till the sands of life shall run. At last he says that farewell
for now, but he will come again even if it is a thousand miles away.
This was the
first poem I studied during my journey of graduation. At that time this poem
seemed to be very romantic.
But now it seems that poem is full of exaggeration. Here love is compared with a
red rose, but a flower has a short life span. Does it mean that poet’s love
will soon decay?????
This short
poem can be interpreted in many ways.
