I WOULD LIKE TO SHARE ANOTHER ANALYSIS OF A BOLLYWOOD FILM SONG "JIYA...MEIN NA JIYA" FROM THE MOVIE "GUNDAY"
Movie: Gunday
Singer: Arijit Singh
Lyrics: Irshad Kamil
Music: Sohail Sen
Starcast: Ranveer Singh, Arjun Kapoor, Priyanka Chopra
Year: 2014
Song title: Jiya
ANALYSIS OF THE SONG

Here poet tries to say that he lives in pieces like a mad man
but beloved’s love made him settled. Here life is given a quality of fragile
thing which can be broken easily. I was away (from the world) like someone mad,
your love has told me, I haven't lived my life. In these lines the writer
describes words “mujko teri chahat ne bata diya…jiya mein na jiya”. How can
love come and tell a person that he hasn’t lived his/her life?

I write on the winds your name, with my eyes.. With the
shadow of my hands, I'll hold your shadow. Poet here exaggerates by writing his
beloved’s name on wind with his eyes. This is almost an impossible thing to do.
Here shadow is given the human quality of holding hands. We know that again it
is not possible to hold your shadow, whenever if we try to catch our shadow it
runs away. The beloved is given a title that she is the goddess of love. You're
the goddess around whom he will make his house with his arms.

Your eyes are a turquoise shade waterway, where, our house
exists. Such I am without you, as a
morning of desert. The morning of a desert is compared with the state of the
person without his/her beloved. You fill in my breath, away from both the
worlds, I wish to come and meet you, O my beloved…Again here we see
exaggeration of words…you can only fill in the air while breathing but here
beloved is love is compared with that air which is taken
Problems while reading
1.) How can people write his beloved’s
name in the air with his eyes? A person might write it on hand or sand.
2.) With the shadow of his hand he will
hold his beloved’s shadow? Whenever we try to hold our or anyone’s shadow it is
actually a futile attempt.
3.) Eyes are told to have dream in which
there is a lake where there is their house. In the other line he says that
without his beloved he like a morning of desert. These lines put us in dilemma
first he talks about lake and then desert. How are they connected?
4.) The words “ do jahan se pare” also
makes it problematic to understand. Poet talks about two worlds. Is there two worlds?
There are many galaxies and planets. What is poet talking about?
According to I.A.Richards, poet has a liberty to use words and express
his feelings.
Intention of the poet
The poet here describes his feelings for his beloved. He tries to tell
her how his life was before her beloved was not in his life
THE POET HAS USED LOTS OF EXAGGERATION AND PERSONIFICATION IN
THESE LYRICS. IN OVERALL SENSE IT IS FOR HIS BELOVED WHICH MAKES THE WORDS
APPROPRIATE AT THEIR PLACE. THE INTENTION OF THE POET IS TO PRAISE THE LOVE OF
HIS BELOVED. BEFORE THIS LOVE, HE WAS LOST AND LIVING IN PIECES.
