Lyrics
Sheeshe ka samandar
Pani ki diwaarein
Maya hai bharam hai
Mohabbat ki duniya
Is duniya mein jo bhi gaya
Wo to gaya
Barf ki reton pe can there be
Shararon ka thikaana
Gam sehraon mein
Narmiyon ka fasana
Yaadon ka aina
Uthta hai jahan
Sach ki parchaiyaan
Har jagah aati hai nazar
Sone ke hain baadal
Patharon ki barish
Maya hai bharam hai
Mohabbat k iduniya
Is duniya mein jo bhi gaya
Wo to gaya
Shishe ka samundar
Pani ki deewarein……….
Analysis
As per
I.A.Richards Figurative Language, the song is analysed
Sheeshe ka samandar
Pani k idiwaarein
Maya hai bharam hai
Mohabbat ki duniya
Is duniya mein jo bhi gaya
Wo to gaya
In the above lines we find a kind of
exaggeration. How is it possible to have a sea of mirrors and walls of water?
It can be an illusion. The other lines shows comparison that ‘’Sheeshe
ka samandar,Pani ki diwaarein” is an illusion
same way the world of love or it can be said that to be in love is a
kind of illusion.
‘’Sheeshe ka samandar’’,’’Pani ki diwaarein’’
are used as metaphors to compare the state of being in love.
Barf k ireton pe
Shararon ka thikaana
Garm sehraon mein
Narmiyon ka fasana
Yaadon ka aina
Uthta hai jahan
Sach k iparchaiyaan
Ha rjagah aati hai nazar
In this stanza again a lot of
exaggeratin is seen. Different kinds of metaphors are used for comparison with
the world or feeling of love. Words like “Barf” and “Shararon” gives the song
paradoxical elements. Truth is personified as having shadow.
Sone ke hain baadal
Patharon ki barish
Maya hai bharam hai
Mohabbat k iduniya
Is duniya mein jo bhi gaya
Wo to gaya
In these lines the words “Sone ke hain
baadal” , “Patharon ki barish” describes a kind of artificiality and these
words works as a metaphor.
Problems in
understanding the lyrics
1.) How can there be sea of mirrors and
walls of water? This is something almost impossible.
2.) What does the line ‘barf ki reton
mein’ tries to tell us? Does it mean snow? Because where there is ice how can
sand found there?
3.) We can see shadow of a person but how
can we see shadow of truth everywhere? We wonder that how truth’s shadow can be
seen everywhere.
4.) Again in the last lines we see how
the words give us an impossible image of could of gold and rain of stones.
According to
I.A.Richards, language can be studied in two ways
1.) Scientific use
2.) Emotive use
Here in this song words are used to create
emotion of a person who has suffered a lot. As this words gives us an
illusionary image, same way the world of love; the feeling of love takes people
in an illusionary world. A poet has a liberty to go beyond the reality and
present his imagination in his own way. Visual image
The first reading of this song gives
an image of a person who is in state of love. The words give a beautiful
picture of a person in love.
Intention
of the poet
When we study the words carefully, we
get an idea of poet’s intention. He gives an image of the pain one gets when
he/she is in an illusion of love. Everything seems to be very beautiful
but in reality it’s an illusion. A lot of pain is there behind this illusion.
People often get cheated by this world of illusion.
