PET/ DRC 2018 :- My First Experience

Whenever we hear the words like exam or interview a sense of nervousness enters into us. Same thing happened with me few months ago. Well my teacher used to tell me that it is good to be nervous and I think he is right. This nervousness led me to work more.

After my Masters, I decided to work on Competitive exams like NET/SLET and prepare for PET 2018 of Maharaja Krishnakumarsinhji Bhavnagar University. PET consisted two papers: 1.) Research Aptitude
                                    2.) English Literature

Second was still familiar but the first paper was new for me. And that paper made me more anxious because frankly didn’t have much idea about Research.

During our Masters, Dr.Dilip Barad Sir had trained us with self-learning through Flipped Learning Project. So I myself started to search and got through amazing blogs written by my seniors Milan Parmar, Bhumi Joshi, Dipti Vaghela and Nidhi Jasani which they had written during their MPhil Studies. The blogs were written in such an easy language and it helped me a lot to get through the exam.

Getting one step nearer to your dream makes you happy but soon when you know the next step is going to be more thought-provoking, all your happiness will turn into anxiety.

Next step was DRC; Doctoral Research Committee. In this a panel of the experts would be invited and the aspirants have to present their research proposal. The word DRC have so much weightage that listening to word itself took my breathe away. At that time DRC felt like a dangerous thing.

First question was which topic should I choose and how to prepare Research Proposal. Every day thousands of ideas like a tornado would go on in your mind. Finally one day I got very inspiring article shared by Ms.Kalyani Vallath. I will share that article in my next blog. After reading it, I asked myself that do I really want this or not?

And yes I wanted it!!!!!

Dilip Sir once told me that choose the topic with which you can live for years. To choose your topic is like to choose a guy with whom you want to spend your life. After going through my assignments and presentations (prepared during my masters) I decided to go for Contemporary Retellings of Ramayana.

Next dilemma was how to prepare research proposal. Here I would like to say that I am lucky to have Barad Sir as a teacher. He has prepared many blogs and presentations regarding how to prepare research proposal. This helped me a lot.

Although I prepared my proposal, I knew it was not enough.
Actually it is never enough, if it is enough then what is the need of studying further.

Finally the day of DRC arrived. I was so nervous. Let me tell you all I was never nervous so much before as I was on this day. And when we saw the experts, I and my friend were so afraid.

The panel consisted experts like Dr.Dilip Barad, Dr.Mansukh Gaijan, Dr.Atanu Bhattacharya and Prof.Sanjay Mukherjee. We had studied under them before also so knew how well-informed and profound they are in their subjects.

My turn was third. When I entered the office, my nervousness grew more. The experts were quite cooperative and they made me quite comfortable. Soon the interview took its speed. All the experts discussed everything in detail. What are the flaws and where I need to work more. Also they gave me different information which can be helpful in my research further.

Overall my presentation went well, but I knew it was not enough. Though my seniors told me not to underestimate myself. Still I was not that much confident, as there were many aspirants who were more experienced.

This was the most fruitful and best experience of my life.

Finally I was also able to crack it. Rather than surprised I was shocked to see my name. My heartfelt gratitude towards my mentor Dr.Dilip Barad Sir for believing in me and giving me this precious opportunity to carry out my research under your guidance. It is a dream come true.

Thank you all the experts for your guidance. I would also like to thank my seniors ( Milan Parmar, Nimesh Dave, Bhumi Joshi, Dipti Vaghela, Nidhi Jasani) and Mrs.Dhvani Joshi for your help and support.

After all this, I can say DRC is not so dangerous.

To register yourself as a research scholar is like to get married. I know it sounds funny, but this is a fact.
So finally I have chosen my love; my topic with whom now I am married and will try to reach at a new level of understanding and explore the new world. Now I have to maintain this relation with dedication and hard work.

Now the journey is going to be tough definitely, but I am excited to follow my dream. Hope to give my best.

Miles to go before I sleep,

And Miles to go before I sleep……………..

"RIP"; Rest in Peace those who are Alive....

Hello Friends, After a long time I am writing here. Hope you all are fine. This time I have come up with a different interpretation of the phrase “RIP”. Mostly this phrase “RIP”; Rest in Peace is used for the people who are no more. We use this phrase to give sympathy towards the departed soul. The soul may get peace wherever it travels. No one exactly knows where the soul travels. Sometimes this phrase is used out of care and sometimes just for show off on social media. While sitting alone near a cemetery, a thought struck in my mind. Why do we use RIP only for dead people????? We can also use it for those who are alive. Many time people use RIP when a person is dead. The same people might have harassed the dead person when he is alive. So what’s the point of “RIP”? Suppose in the day time you behave very badly with someone. Is he/she going to get sound and peaceful sleep at night? The dead person will never come back so we just say “RIP”. Of course ever

“My friend, the things that do attain” - Henry Howard, Earl of Surrey.

Hello friends, I would like to share a poem which I studied during my graduation. The title of the poem is “My friend, the things that do attain”. It is written by Henry Howard, Earl of Surrey. Henry Howard, Earl of Surrey (1516/1517 – 19 January 1547), was an English aristocrat, and one of the founders of English Renaissance poetry. MY friend, the things that do attain The happy life be these, I find: The riches left, not got with pain; The fruitful ground; the quiet mind; The equal friend; no grudge; no strife; No charge of rule, nor governance; Without disease, the healthy life; The household of continuance; The mean diet, no dainty fare; Wisdom joined with simpleness; The night discharged of all care, Where wine the wit may not oppress: The faithful wife, without debate; Such sleeps as may beguile the night; Content thyself with thine estate, Neither wish death, nor fear his might. In the above mentioned poem, there is a list

" The Winged Word"- David Green

In my Graduation syllabus, I had a book named “ The Winged word”. This anthology is edited by David Green. It is anthology of poems compiled for the students of English literature in the B.A courses of Indian Universities. The chronological order, in which the poets are arranged in this book, helps the students to note the development of English poetry from one age to another. Referring to this book after a long time span, gives me a immense joy. There are many poems in this book. We were given some selected poems to study during three years of graduation. The poems which were in my syllabus are as follow:-    1.)   I Find No Peace – Sir Thomas Wyatt (1503-42)    2.) My Friend, the Things That Do Attain –Henry Howard (1517- 47)    3.) The Nymph’s Reply to the Shepherd –Sir Walter Ralegh (1552-1618)    4.) The Nightingale – Sir Philip Sidney (1554- 86)    5.) Since There’s No Help – Michael Drayton (1563- 1613)    6.) Sonnet No.116 – Willi
